WATCH: Seiya Suzuki smacks single in first rehab at-bat |
Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki is close to returning from his injury as he played for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on Saturday.
In the first inning, Suzuki worked a full-count and laced a single to the delight of the fans in the stands and everyone from Cubs nation. A healthy Suzuki would be a welcome sight for the Cubs, as they have missed his presence in right field. With his ability to hit for power and average, as well as his strong arm and excellent range in the outfield, Suzuki is a key component of the Cubs' lineup and defensive alignment. It remains to be seen when Suzuki will make his return to the major league team, but his appearance in the minor leagues is certainly a positive sign. Likely, they will give him two games in Iowa before returning to the big club. The Cubs will likely continue to monitor his progress closely and make sure he is fully healthy before bringing him back to the big leagues.
