Position Grades for Bears after rivalry loss to Packers |
The Bears had their winning streak snapped but snuck into the postseason after their dreadful performance at home. It’s been an up and down season, but the Bears find themselves with a chance to keep their season alive.
Let’s give out our usual position grades for the Bears, who lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 35-16. Quarterbacks: C- Trubisky has been great since returning to the Bears as their starter, but this week a conservative gameplay kept him limited. The offense put up 30 plus points in four straight games, and that ended this week with the Bears scoring just one touchdown, and it was on the first drive of the game. Poor red zone offense is something that Mitch can partially be blamed for. He finished with 252 yards with one interception for a C- rating. Let’s not be fooled here again, ok? Mitch Trubisky ain’t it, will never be it and shouldn’t be on the roster next season. pic.twitter.com/FKLJSe8xlo
Running backs: B David Montgomery has been a bright spot for the Bears down the stretch. Battling through injury, Montgomery rushed 22 times for 69 yards and a TD. Montgomery also caught nine passes for 63 yards. Cordarelle Patterson and Artavis Pierce combined for five carries as well. David Montgomery had a monster sophomore season in the NFL.
Wide Receivers: B+ This unit performed admirably enough to earn a B+. Allen Robinson did not have his usual game, catching just two passes for 37 yards. Rookie Darnell Mooney had a career game, as he caught 11 passes for 93 yards. Anthony Miller caught a pair of passes as well. Darnell Mooney SNATCHED that ??
Tight Ends: B This unit, with an overfilled position room, had a solid day on Sunday. Rookie Cole Kmet and Jimmy Graham each were involved. Kmet paced the unit with seven grabs for 41 yards, while Graham had a pair of catches. Same, @ColeKmet. Same. pic.twitter.com/4h1klcvSv7
Offensive Line: B The offensive line has been getting hot at the right times. This unit not only was able to generate a nice push in the run game but also kept Mitch Trubiksy upright — allowing just one sack. This unit is moving in the right direction as the playoffs approach. Favorite play of the year ! Bears first TD watch the 6 OL on the field the starting 5 plus Coward driving their legs and pushing GBs DLine into the end zone ! This is ?? Beautiful!!!! pic.twitter.com/QzmcLSfiUT
Defensive Line: D The D-line wasn’t great on Sunday. The unit had Hicks back, so they were better against the run but struggled to generate pressure against Aaron Rodgers. Linebackers: C Khalil Mack was quiet for the Bears, although he picked up the Bears’ lone sack. The usually involved Roquan Smith was injured early, which hurt the Bears defense. Danny Trevathan had eight tackles, and fourth-string Josh Woods struggled in Smith’s absence. Khalil Mack: PFF's Highest-Graded EDGE Defender of 2020 ?? ?? pic.twitter.com/T0LsH85uJa
Secondary: D- The Packers had some big plays — including the Bears secondary getting torched multiple times. The secondary was a weak spot as the Bears struggled to get off the field. However, they were without several defensive backs, which made that difficult. This unit needs to get healthy ASAP for the Bears to have a chance in the playoffs. This #Bears season has had plenty of strange things happen, but Eddie Jackson not having one INT is up there on my list. For whatever reason, he just isn't finishing plays like we have seen in the past. Jackson's could've been INT vs. GB looked very similar to the one vs. HOU. pic.twitter.com/kdWgegDwYf
Special Teams: A Cairo Santos was 3-of-3 on field goals and 1/1 on extra points, nothing short of spectacular. The return game was kept in check, though. A new #Bears all-time record, 27 consecutive field goals for Cairo Santos! That breaks Robbie Gould's record of 26 in a row between the 2005-06 seasons. pic.twitter.com/gXzt5A3gnQ
Playcalling: D Bill Lazor and company have figured out the right offense to run with this personnel and shied away from it on Sunday. Trubisky was not able to take shots, and there were some questionable play calls, especially on fourth down. Matt Nagy told his team that "it's ok to feel like crap right now" but he wants them to turn the page and lock in to the Saints tomorrow. #Bears
Nonetheless, this team finished the regular season 8-8 and looking to make a run in the playoffs against the Saints and the rest of the NFC.
He rushed for 1,070 yards. Averaged 4.3 yards per attempt along with 8 TD.
He also proved to be dual threat as he had 438 receiving yards and 2 TD.
All together, Montgomery had 1,508 yards from scrimmage. pic.twitter.com/eX3En0pB2F
