ATLANTA, Ga. – The Chicago Cubs today acquired right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league infielder Jake Slaughter. To make room on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Richard Lovelady has been designated for assignment.

Miller, 28, has made nine relief appearances for the Mariners this season, posting a 3.09 ERA (4 ER/11.2 IP). He has 12 strikeouts compared to just one walk. He joined the Mariners organization signing as a minor league free agent on Nov. 11, 2023 and was added to the 40-man roster on April 8.

A native of Fairfield, Calif., Miller returns to the Cubs organization where he was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 Draft. He made his major league debut with Chicago on August 17, 2020 vs. St. Louis. He made two appearances, one start, for the Cubs that season, and owned a 5.40 ERA (3 ER/5.0 IP).

Across four major league seasons, Miller is 2-2 with a 5.91 ERA (28 ER/42.2 IP) in 25 appearances—three starts. He split the 2023 season between Milwaukee, New York (N.L.) and Los Angeles (N.L.) and played the 2022 season with Texas.

Slaughter, 27, has appeared in 32 games this season for Triple-A Iowa, hitting .297 with five home runs and 17 RBI. He was drafted by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2018 Draft. In six minor league seasons, he owns a .264 batting average with 58 home runs and 260 RBI in 459 games.
