by -

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Chicago Cubs claimed right-handed pitcher Enoli Paredes off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday and today added him to the active roster. In a corresponding move, Gavin Hollowell was optioned to the Arizona Complex League.

Paredes, 28, is 1-0 with one save, a 1.74 ERA (4 ER/20.2 IP), 14 strikeouts and a .181 opponent batting average in 17 appearances with Milwaukee this season. At the time of this release, Paredes’ 1.74 ERA and .181 opponent batting average were both the third-best among Brewers relievers with at least 15 appearances. In 27 games (1 start) with Triple-A Nashville and High-A Wisconsin in 2024, he pitched to a 1.99 ERA (7 ER/31.2 IP) with a 2-1 record, five saves, 48 strikeouts and a 0.95 WHIP.

The native of El Limon, D.R., is 4-3 with a 3.06 ERA (18 ER/53.0 IP) in 54 career major league games across four seasons with Houston (2020-22) and Milwaukee (2024). The five-foot 11-inch righty was named a Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star in 2017 and a Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star in 2019. Following the 2022 season, he was named a Pacific Coast League Post-Season All-Star and an MiLB.com Organization All-Star as a member of the Astros’ farm system. He signed with the Astros as an international free agent in 2014 and made his major league debut July 24, 2020.

Hollowell, 26, was recalled yesterday and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout in last night’s game.

The Cubs play the Philadelphia Phillies today at 5:40 p.m. CT at Citizens Bank Park, in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score.
