Jordan Wicks makes Cubs history with MLB debut |
What a wicked first performance!
Chicago Cubs rookie starting pitcher Jordan Wicks struck out nine batters in his MLB Debut on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was tied for the third-most by a Cub in his debut since the mound was set to the regular distance in 1893. He was also the first Cubs pitcher since 1961 to throw five straight strikeouts in his major league debut, according to Elias. Wick retired the last 15 batters he faced. His final stat line was five innings pitched, allowing a solo homer to start the game, only two hits, a walk, and nine strikeouts. He was 7-0 with a 3.55 ERA split between Double and Triple-A this season.
