Cubs reportedly interested in Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have faced significant challenges this season at the catcher position.

They have already released veteran catcher Yan Gomes and have been rotating between youngster Miguel Amaya (batting .201) and journeyman Tomas Nido (batting .135).

Despite these challenges, there is some news on the horizon.

According to USA TODAY's MLB writer Bob Nightengale, the Cubs are exploring the trade market for another catcher.

Nightengale reports that "the Chicago Cubs have expressed interest in Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen" in his latest article.

In 56 games this season, Jansen is hitting .223 with six home runs and 17 RBIs.

Jansen is in the final year of his contract with the Blue Jays and will pay $5.2 million this season.

As the trade deadline approaches, it is still unclear whether the Cubs will be buyers or sellers. Nonetheless, it is noteworthy that they are actively seeking potential targets to bolster their roster.

The MLB trade deadline is on July 30.

Obviously, it would be more fun if the trade rumors were for Blue Jays stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette, but that would be a high prospect price that the Northsiders would unlikely want to pay.
