Bulls News: Jameson Taillon injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs veteran pitcher Jameson Taillon was scratched in pregame for his first spring start on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies.

Cubs manager Counsell told the media after the win that the pitcher had lower back tightness and had assistance leaving the bullpen.

His back locked up on him about ten pitches into his warmup session.

Counsell is unsure of the severity of the injury.

"I hope to know more tomorrow," Counsell said. Let's see what happens overnight, and then we can have more guidance on what we're going to do here. Obviously, what you hope for is that it was just a spasm, and it goes away."

In 2023, Taillon had an 8-10 record with the Cubs with a 4.84 ERA, 140 strikeouts, and a 1.28 WHIP.

It would be a tough blow for the Cubs if Taillon had back issues throughout the season, as they hoped that he would be a workhorse for the rotation in 2024.

Sunday update on Taillon:

"I don't think it's a long-term absence for Jameson, so don't think it's one of those concerns," Counsell said. "We're in good shape. We have a bunch of guys stretched out. See how that plays out."
