Chicago Cubs to host 'Cubs for a Cure'

by -

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs are teaming up with Audacy, Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C) and American Airlines to host “Cubs for a Cure,” a multiday fundraising effort dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. Cubs for a Cure will include a radiothon on 670 The Score, weeklong Cubs Authentics auction featuring game-used gear, special Cubs Charities 50/50 Raffle guaranteed jackpot and more. The effort will culminate with the Cubs game Saturday, August 17, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“Cubs for a Cure is the evolution of an event we held last year in honor of Lin Brehmer who passed away from cancer,” said Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney. “Unfortunately, Lin's story is all too common. We all know someone who has been impacted by cancer, so together with our friends at Audacy, Stand Up To Cancer and American Airlines, the Cubs are committed to doing our part. We hope fans join us for Cubs for a Cure and help raise funds to fight this devastating disease.”

Prior to the event at the ballpark, 670 The Score will host a 24-hour radiothon from 10 a.m. CT Thursday, August 15, through 10 a.m. CT Friday, August 16, where listeners can donate to the cause with 100% of the proceeds benefiting cancer research. Cubs players and other VIP guests will take part in the radiothon.

“It’s an honor to host a 24-hour radiothon in partnership with the Cubs,” said 670 The Score host Danny Parkins. “Fundraising for cancer research is a passion of mine as a tribute to my brother Brad who passed away from brain cancer. I look forward to raising money in his honor and for everyone who faces this terrible disease.”

On August 17, fans can enjoy activities at Gallagher Way with various opportunities to donate before heading into the ballpark. A Stand Up To Cancer Placard Moment™ will take place during the game where all guests can hold up a placard in recognition of those affected by cancer.

Fans interested in attending the August 17 game and supporting cancer research can purchase a ticket to the game through the Cubs for a Cure Special Ticket Offer. The Special Ticket Offer will include a special-edition T-shirt.

"The goal is to raise as much money as possible for research and to find a cure,” said 670 The Score Vice President of Programming Mitch Rosen. “To partner with an iconic organization like the Cubs, in conjunction with the power of The

Score’s audience, should make Cubs for a Cure a great success."

Cubs Charities will host a special 50/50 Raffle $50,000 guaranteed jackpot when the Cubs take on the Blue Jays August 16-18. For the three-game series, fans in Illinois will be able to purchase Cubs Charities 50/50 Raffle tickets online starting at 10 a.m. CT Friday, August 16, until the end of the August 18 game. One lucky winner will be selected at the end of Sunday’s game and will receive half of the jackpot total with the other half of the proceeds benefiting cancer research and Cubs Charities. In accordance with state and local law, online 50/50 Raffle tickets are only available for purchase in the State of Illinois.

In addition, Cubs Authentics auctions will host an online auction August 11-17 where fans can bid on game-used gear. All proceeds from the online auction will be donated to cancer nonprofits. More information on the online auction will be provided closer to the event date.
