Down on the Cubs Farm: 2-1 record, Adbert Alzolay shines, highlights, more

Talk about a turn of events in 24 hours. One day after the farm system exploded offensively, Monday was all about pitching as the Cubs were held to just four runs in three minor league games. Full Story »

Given the state of the cubs rotation over the last 10 games and how hard they have been getting hit it would not shock me at all to see Joe maddon go with a 6 man rotation in the near future with adBert getting a shot at spot

I'd like to see Alzolay up, but I really think Chatwood is the better option for a sixth starter (did I just say that?).

I want to see Tyler be the closer for right now. 3 other person they have tried in that role this season has failed miserably and he has the capability to throw a scoreless inning every timeout or walk a couple hitters every time all but limit the damage I think he would be very good as a closer this year

I would agree with that. Chatty has redeemed himself this year, but now he has a chance to REALLY step up. Problem is, you don't really need a closer when you get blown out night after night.

The starting pitching is really starting to worry me. Jon Lester does this every year where he has a string of bad starts. The difference is it usually happens around the all-star break not this early. Jose Quintana got off to an amazing start, but now it seems as if he is coming back to earth.

YU Darvish is still frusterating, but at least he is trying to get better and i cant complain there. Kyle has been the stopper for the last month and will need another great showing tonight. The one that concerns me the most right now is Cole Hamels. It seems over the past four outings, that age is starting to catch up to him. Not only is he having trouble getting through five innings, but he seems to have lost command in the process making for a bigger issue when you dont blow hitters away.

With tomorrow being their first off day in almost three weeks, and Monday a make up game, the Cubs may want to go with a six man rotation to take some weight off the starters. I agree Chatwood would be a good choice, but he is in a groove right now so leave him be. Monty is another option, but he is injured again. If it were me making decisions, I would call up Adbert and give him a shot or even Colin Rea who seems to be saving his career in Iowa. Anything is better than the starters giving up 6 plus runs in five innings as they have lately.

I couldn't agree more about implementing a six-man until this straightens out. I do think that if it's not just one spot start than Chatty is the best option. I forgot all about Rea, and I'd like to see Alzolay eventually.
