According to multiple reports on Friday, the Chicago Bears are reportedly releasing defensive end DeMarcus Walker and tight end Gerald Everett.
Parting ways with Everett will save the team over $5.5 million. Despite playing in all 17 games last season, he had minimal impact, recording just eight catches for 36 yards, which indicates he wasn't a good fit in the Bears' offensive scheme. Releasing Walker will free up $5.25 million in cap space for the Bears. Walker played in 17 games, amassing 25 tackles and 3.5 sacks. The 30-year-old is now set to enter free agency and is expected to attract interest from other teams. These moves are part of the Bears' efforts to maximize their cap space to fill some needs for the 2025 season and beyond. Their war chest of cap space is at nearly $80 million, which is the fourth-highest in the NFL. Defensive end DeMarcus Walker will also be released by the #Bears. Combined with TE Gerald Everett, the two moves, which were not unexpected, create more than $10M in salary-cap space.
