Bulls News: Ryan Poles gives update on Jaylon Johnson contract talks

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles is one of the most popular guys at the 2024 NFL Combine, as his team has the No. 1 overall pick, which has caused a stir with all kinds of trade rumors.

However, one other popular topic is whether the Bears will be able to extend standout cornerback Jaylon Johnson who is now a free agent but wants to stay in Chicago.

“Conversations are going well at this time,” Poles said. “We feel like we've done a really good job coming to the table strong and showing the respect that he's due just in terms of his production through his career and really an emphasis on the turnovers he created this past year.

“Our expectation is that's going to continue to go as he's with the Bears.”

Johnson said in a podcast earlier this year that he hopes to be the highest-paid corner in the league.

If the Bears decide they can't pay such a large amount and can't come to terms with him, they have until March. 5 to use their franchise tag to keep him around for another season.
