Bears make several roster moves including releasing QB PJ Walker |
The Chicago Bears announced on Sunday that they have released veteran quarterback PJ Walker, waived offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood and waived offensive guard Gabe Houy.
Walker's release saves the Bears $150,000 with a dead cap of $1.5 million. Walker was competing for the backup quarterback job and completed 11 of 23 passes for 96 yards, one touchdown and one interception in three preseason games. The team still has franchise quarterback Justin Fields and backups Tyson Bagent and Nathan Peterman on the roster as signal-callers. Leatherwood was a first-round draft pick by the Raiders in 2021. He played 32 snaps for the Bears last season. Houy was signed by the Bears this year after being an undrafted free agent from Pittsburgh. He had a serious injury in the second half of Saturday's preseason game against the Bills and had to be carted off the field.
