SEATTLE, Wash. – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Keegan Thompson from Triple-A Iowa and optioned right-handed pitcher José Cuas to Iowa.
Thompson, 29, has made four relief appearances this season for Iowa, posting a 1-0 record with a 4.50 ERA (3 ER/6.0 IP). He is holding hitters to a .143 average (3-for-21) with seven strikeouts. The Cullman, Ala. native made 19 relief appearances with the Cubs in 2023 pitching to a 2-2 record and 4.71 ERA (15 ER/28.2 IP). He also recorded one save and three holds in two separate stints. With Iowa last season, Thompson was 3-0 with an 8.10 ERA (27 ER/30.0 IP) in 20 outings out of the bullpen. Throughout 80 games (23 starts) in his major league career, Thompson is 15-10 with a 3.79 ERA (83 ER/197.0 IP). He made his major league debut on May 2, 2021. In his eighth year in the Cubs organization, Thompson was selected in the third round of the 2017 draft out of Auburn University Cincinnati. Cuas, 29, has made five relief appearances for the Cubs this season, posting a 12.00 ERA (8 ER/6.0 IP).
