Bulls News: Roster Moves: Swanson activated from IL, PCA optioned and more

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced that they have activated infielder Dansby Swanson from the 10-day injured list and recalled infielder Luis Vázquez from Triple-A Iowa. In corresponding moves, outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and infielder Miles Mastrobuoni have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Swanson, 30, was placed on the injured list May 8 with a right knee sprain. He has played in 37 games for the Cubs in 2024, batting .209 (27-for-129) with three doubles, one triple, four home runs and 12 RBI. At the time of his injury, he was tied for the team lead in stolen bases (4) and tied for fourth in walks (13). He is one of 11 Cubs hitters to record a triple this season.

Vázquez, 24, earned his first major league call-up, hitting .262 (37-for-141) with 10 doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI and a .360 OBP in 39 games with Iowa this season. The Cubs No. 13 prospect, according to MLB.com, ranks second on the I-Cubs in doubles and fourth in walks (16) and total bases (56). During April, Vázquez tallied hits in 16 of 21 games played and batted .361 (26-for-72) with nine RBI, a .447 OBP and a .989 slugging percentage.

The Orocovis, Puerto Rico, native was named a Chicago Cubs MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the 2023 season, during which he reached career-highs in hits (123), home runs (20), RBI (80), runs scored (72), doubles (24), batting average (.271), OBP (.361) and OPS (.817) between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. Vázquez was selected by the Cubs in the 14th round of the 2017 draft.

Mastrobuoni, since being recalled May 8, hit .179 (5-for-28) over 11 games in his second stint with the Cubs. He recorded his first hits of the season May 11 at Pittsburgh, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored.

Crow-Armstrong recorded his first career hit, a two-run homer against Houston, on April 25 in his first start of the season. In 23 games with the Cubs this season, he posted a .236 (13-for-55) batting average with two doubles, one triple, one home run and five stolen bases.

The Cubs play the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field today at 6:40 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score and WRTO 1200.
