Several Cubs players avoid arbitration

Moves are coming fast and furious after a slow start to the offseason for the Chicago Cubs.

The team has avoided arbitration with their ace Justin Steele, who settled at $4 million for next season.

For the season, Steele had a 16-5 record with a 3.06 ERA with 176 strikeouts.

Cubs utility player Nick Madrigal has also avoided arbitration inking a $1.8 million deal for 2024.

Madrigal hit .263 with two homers and 28 RBIs in 2023.

Veteran Mike Tauchman has agreed to a $1.95 million contract to avoid arbitration.

Closer Adbert Alzolay settled for $2.11 million to avoid arbitration.

Reliever Mike Leiter Jr. agreed to a $1.5 million deal to avoid arbitration, as well as Julian Merryweather at $1.175 million.
