Cubs reportedly sign infielder

by - Senior Editor -

Another low-risk move by the Northsiders.

The Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed infielder Carlos Asuaje to a minor league contract on Monday, according to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic.

Asuaje will be brought into spring training and fight for the Cubs' final roster spot on the ballclub.

The 28-year old has played in 175 total MLB games all with the Padres and is a career .240 hitter. However, he had his best season in 2017 where he hit .270 in 89 games.

He is another infielder that can play second base (also third base) as the Cubs now have David Bote, Daniel Descalso, Tony Kemp, Nico Hoerner, and Ian Happ are capable at that position.

I guess we will wait and see what happens in spring training with the surplus of infielders and who makes the final cut.
