Cubs celebrate 30th anniversary of 'A League of their Own' with screening |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs will host a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the baseball classic, “A League of Their Own,” at Wrigley Field and Gallagher Way Thursday, September 29. The celebration will include a pregame recognition on the field before the 1:20 p.m. CDT game against the Philadelphia Phillies featuring cast members from the acclaimed film and former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player Maybelle Blair. A film screening and Q&A discussion with cast members will take place at Gallagher Way following the game.
“A League of Their Own” is a 1992 film that tells a fictional account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and the Rockford Peaches. Fans interested in watching the hit film are able to attend a free screening at Gallagher Way Thursday, September 29, at 7 p.m. CDT with the first 800 early arriving fans eligible to receive a limited-edition commemorative hat. Prior to the screening, fans can take part in a Q&A discussion at 6:30 p.m. CDT with cast members Megan Cavanagh, Ann Cusack, Patti Pelton, Anne Ramsay and Tracy Reiner. 13 members of the Lil Peaches, an all-girls youth baseball team in Rockford, Illinois, will be in attendance at the game, participating in a pregame clinic with Cubs minor league hitting coach Rachel Folden and professional baseball pitcher and outfielder Kelsie Whitmore.
