Bulls News: Marcus Stroman injury update |
Tough news for the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs announced on Wednesday that starting pitcher Marcus Stroman has suffered a right rib cartilage fracture. There is no timetable for his return according to officials, as they want him to be symptom-free before he resumes any baseball activities. Cubs President of Operations Jed Hoyer has no idea on Stroman's return. “I have no idea,” he said. “That's the honest truth. We don't really know at this point. …It’s not a real common pitching injury. I've never seen that before so for me to speculate would be false.” In 2023, Stroman has a 10-8 record with a 3.85 ERA, 111 strikeouts, and 1.24 WHIP. He hasn't pitched since July 31 after landing on the injury list with a hip injury. The Cubs will need Drew Smyly to return to form, Hayden Wesneski to get some quality innings in and Javier Asaad to keep pitching well while Stroman is out of the rotation. This is a gut punch for the Cubs' playoff chances as they currently are only 3.5 games back of the National League Central-leading Brewers and one game behind the Marlins for the final wild-card spot.
