Start’em or Sit’em in Fantasy Football: Bears vs Cardinals

by - Correspondent -

Last week was not a fun week for Chicago Bears fantasy owners. Their lack of offensive efficiency was bad for almost every Bears player in fantasy. The one exception was running back D’Andre Swift, who had his first 100-yard rushing game of the season and his fourth straight game with a rushing touchdown. However, playing the Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday (3:05 p.m. / CBS) may help Chicago’s fantasy owners get back on track.

Caleb Williams - Sit

After his dismal fantasy performance against the Commanders and given how he has played on the road, this may seem like a good week to drop rookie Caleb Williams from your fantasy roster. That would be an accurate assessment. There are only two teams on bye this week - the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers. Neither one of them have stellar fantasy quarterbacks, so Williams is not even a make-do option. Until the Chicago offense can prove they can be effective on the road, Williams cannot be put in your starting lineup when the Bears are not in Chicago.

D’Andre Swift - Start

The only truly reliable player on the Bears’ offense right now is running back D’Andre Swift. He has been putting up touchdowns, a lot of running yards, and 13 receptions over the last four games. Consistent players are hard to find in fantasy, especially at the running back position. Therefore, Swift is a must-start in any fantasy format.

DJ Moore - Start

Wide receiver DJ Moore has been a lot more volatile fantasy-wise than he was last season. However, going against a team like the Arizona Cardinals with a poor passing defense allows Moore to bounce back and have a good game against Arizona. They are giving up the seventh-most passing yards out of any team through the first eight weeks of the season. In addition, the Cardinals do not have a strong rush defense, which opens up the pass. Moore is poised to have a bounce-back game, even if Williams does not perform well.

Cole Kmet - Sit

National tight ends day was not much fun for Cole Kmet, who only had one reception for 14 yards against the Washington Commanders. While the Cardinals are not a formidable defense, they are decent against tight ends. This is probably a game where Chicago runs the ball more, and when they do throw, it is more likely to go to Moore or veteran receiver Keenan Allen than to Kmet. Even if you need someone to fill in for George Kittle this week, Kmet is not the player to do that and there are probably more reliable options available on the waiver wire.

Cairo Santos - Think About Starting For This Week Only

This may actually be a week to think about putting kicker Cairo Santos in your lineup. With Chris Boswell, who has been one of the best kickers in the league fantasy-wise this year, on bye, Santos could be a make-do option for this week. Arizona’s defense lets teams put points up on them. Combine that with Chicago’s offensive struggles on the road, and this sounds like a recipe for a decent number of field goals. Santos only has ten field goal attempts this season, so starting him would be more of a risky move. However, if you don’t mind a risk, Santos has a lot of upside with the Cardinals’ defense.
