Bulls News: Sweat on his strip sack: "I felt disrespected honestly" |
CHICAGO - Seriously? The Los Angeles Rams put a tight end on edge rusher Montez Sweat?
It was not surprising that mismatch led to a strip sack by Sweat, which was recovered by cornerback Kyler Gordon and ultimately set up a one-yard touchdown run by running back Roschon Johnson to give Chicago an early lead en route to their 24-18 victory over the Rams this past Sunday. “I felt disrespected, honestly, with a tight end on me. I did what I was supposed to do,” Sweat said. “I see around the league some of these good edge rushers getting these one-on-ones with these tight ends, and I kind of look back at my film, and I see I rarely usually get those opportunities. So, it was cool to get that one opportunity that one time and capitalize on it.” Sweat’s strip-sack set up the offense at the Rams’ 16-yard line, which helped give them some early momentum by giving the offense an incredibly short field to work with. It was Sweat’s second game in a row with a sack. He is one of three players on Chicago’s roster with multiple sacks through the first four games, with defensive lineman Gervon Dexter Sr. leading the way with three sacks. “Dex is playing at a high level right now. We (are) always waiting on somebody to get the party started, and Dex did that. So, we fed off of him,” Sweat said. “There’s still a lot of areas that we as a defense and myself can clean up on. That’s what we’re going to do … “We want to win every week. But, definitely this week and coming off a loss, getting back to 500, it feels good.” Safety Jaquan Brisker also had a sack in this game, his first of the season and sixth in his career. The third-year safety made some crucial plays in this game. He had 12 total tackles, including eight solo tackles, and the game-winning interception at the end of the game. It was only his third career interception and first against a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. “It felt good getting a game-winning pick, especially on (quarterback) Matthew Stafford,” Brisker said. “Really, I just give credit to the coaches. Before I went out there, they told us what they were going to run and I trusted what they said and went out there and did what I did.” After losing their past two games, this win was critical to get the Bears back on track. However, they are still two behind in the division as the Minnesota Vikings remain undefeated after taking down the Green Bay Packers 31-29. Nonetheless, this win was necessary for Chicago to keep pace in the division and get back on track. Playing the Carolina Panthers next on Sun. Oct. 6 (Noon/FOX) should also help with that as the Bears look to stack wins by being consistent and continue to dominate on defense. “It’s very important. We should have started like that last week, but we didn’t. So, just look forward to this week and get a big win at home, which we did, and just keep stacking … Continue to be consistent and continue to play our time of ball,” Brisker said. “We should really be dominating. But, once we get everyone coming together, everybody doing (their) job and play calling, everything (lining) up right, we should be dominant. This is the year for us to be dominating and trusting each other, having confidence from players to coaches, coaches to players. So, just to continue to do that, be consistent and we’ll be the team we want to be.”
