Former Bears quarterback Bob Avellini passes away |
Former Chicago Bears quarterback Bob Avellini has passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 70.
Avellini threw for 7,111 yards with 33 touchdowns and 69 inteceptions in 73 games over nine seasons, from 1975 to 1984. Avellini will best be known for partnering with Walter Payton and having a career year in 1977. They finished with a 9-5 record and a wild-card playoff berth that year. Avellini played his entire career with the HOF running back. The Bears released the following statement on his passing. “Bob was one-of-kind, a fierce and tough competitor," the statement read. "He’s perhaps best remembered for leading the Bears on an improbable run in 1977 to our first postseason appearance in fourteen years. He will be missed.” He was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round out of Maryland in 1975. ChicagoBearsHQ would like to give our condolences to his family and friends on his passing.
