Roster Move: Bears release veteran offensive lineman Nate Davis

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears have released veteran offensive lineman Nate Davis on Wednesday.

“We released Nate Davis (Wednesday). We just felt it was best for him and for the organization, for the team right now to do that,” Eberflus said. “Jake Curhan moved to the active roster for us today as well, and it’s good to have (offensive lineman) Braxton Jones back at practice.

Davis signed a three-year contract worth $30 million (highest-paid offensive lineman) in 2023, and the Bears thought he would be a contributing starter, but he never lived up to his potential. During his time in Chicago, he gave up 26 quarterback hurries and 35 quarterback pressures.

He earned nearly $20 million in guaranteed money as part of the contract.

Any team that picks up Davis on waivers will have to pay the $3.9 million left on his contract this season.

However, they got fleeced as he didn't seem to want to get on the field much at all. As recently as this past Sunday, he had a new "back" injury during pregame.

“Nate Davis came in this morning, and his back tightened up on him," Eberflus told reporters recently. "He saw Andre, the trainer, before the game, Andre ruled him out, and then we sent him home because we don’t want guys on two feet with a back issue."

He left the team in a bind because they had only seven healthy linemen, and we saw what happened during the game: sack after sack.

He played in only 13 games across 1.5 seasons with the Bears.

This release was not surprising at all because Davis was never reliable and had not played since Week 5.

The Bears (4-5) will host the Packers (6-3) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
