Bears WR Chase Claypool placed on PUP list |
The Chicago Bears have announced that wide receiver Chase Claypool will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP).
The decision comes as a result of a lingering soft tissue injury that Claypool suffered during OTAs, which has yet to heal completely. The news comes as a blow to the Bears' offense, as Claypool's presence on the field is crucial to building chemistry and rapport with the rest of the offensive unit before the start of the regular season. With Week 1 fast approaching (48 days away) and a matchup against their arch-rivals, the Green Bay Packers, the Bears had hoped to have their key offensive pieces in place to hit the ground running. However, there is a silver lining to this setback. Players on the PUP list can be activated at any point during training camp once they are deemed healthy and ready to participate fully in practice. The Bears' decision to acquire Chase Claypool came with high expectations, as they traded the No. 32 overall pick for the talented wide receiver. Unfortunately, thus far, Claypool's performance has not lived up to the lofty hopes surrounding him. Since joining the Bears, he has caught just 14 passes for a modest 140 yards, leaving fans and the organization wanting more from their investment. While the setback is disappointing, Bears fans can remain hopeful that Claypool will return to the field soon and demonstrate the potential that made him an attractive acquisition in the first place. With time and patience, Claypool has the opportunity to make a significant impact on the Bears' offense once he is fully healthy and ready to contribute. Chase Claypool on starting on PUP opens up a big opportunity for Tyler Scott and Velus Jones to get meaningful reps w the ones at camp.
