Brandon Hyde is in his third season on the Cubs major league coaching staff and second as first base coach ... he was the major league bench coach in 2014 after joining the organization in December of 2011 as minor league field coordinator ... was promoted to director of player development, August 29, 2012 ... has 13 years coaching experience following a five-year playing career from 1997-2001. Prior to his time with Chicago, spent nine seasons with the Miami Marlins organization including a stint as major league bench coach under managers Edwin Rodriguez and Jack McKeon from June 23, 2010 through the end of the 2011 campaign. Was a minor league manager in the Marlins system for five seasons, from 2005-09, compiling a 351-342 (.506) record. Signed with the White Sox as an undrafted free agent out of Long Beach State University in June of 1997 ... former catcher/first baseman was a .252 hitter in 200 minor league games from 1997-2001, including four seasons in the White Sox system (1997-2000). Hyde: Managerial and Coaching Career Prior to the Cubs, Brandon previously served as a major league bench coach for the Miami Marlins from June 23, 2010 through the 2011 campaign. Served as a the Marlins interim manager, June 19, 2011 against Tampa Bay, following the resignation of manager Edwin Rodriguez ... Jack McKeon was named manager the following day. Began the 2010 season as minor league infield coordinator in the Marlins system, his first year in that role. Spent the previous five years (2005-09) managing in the Marlins minor league system ... managed the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League in 2009. Served as Double-A Jacksonville's manager in 2009, guiding the Suns to the first of two-consecutive Southern League Championships. Prior to his stint with Jacksonville, managed the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads (2008), the Double-A Carolina Mudcats (2007) and the Class A Greensboro Grasshoppers (2005-06). Before being promoted to manager, served as Greensboro's hitting coach for the second half of the 2003 season and all of 2004. Was a coach for Long Beach State University in 2002 when the 49ers finished 39-21 and were eliminated by Stanford in the College World Series. Hyde: Playing Career Spent four seasons in the White Sox organization after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Long Beach State June 20, 1997, and played independent ball in 2001 … the former catcher/first baseman was a career .252 batter with 15 home runs and 104 RBI in 200 games from 1997-2001. Played 17 games for the Chico Heat of the Independent Western League in 2001. Best season came in 1999 with Single-A Burlington when he hit .286 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 40 RBI in 65 games.
